Opens noon Thursday 3 December, closes 5pm Sunday 6 December, almost 200 stalls. Full daily times, funfair hours, park and ride and what is still unconfirmed.

The 2026 Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre runs from Thursday 3 December to Sunday 6 December. The market opens at midday on the Thursday and shuts at 5pm on the Sunday, and the funfair stays open until 10.30pm on the first three nights.

The dates are confirmed twice over: on the Fayre’s own site, and by the market operator. Cotswold Markets Limited says it is running the event “for the sixth consecutive year” and that it “will be taking place from the 3rd-6th December 2026”. (Cotswold Markets)

These are the organiser’s own published hours. Note that the funfair and the market keep different hours on three of the four days.

Sunday is much the shortest day. If you want the Fayre after dark, Thursday and Friday give you the longest evening.

What is actually there

The organiser says there will be “almost 200 stalls across the city centre, selling local arts and crafts, delicious street food and gifts”. The Fayre began in 1992 with traders from New Street and Friar Street, and it now spreads across Cathedral Square, the High Street, New Street, Friar Street, Cornmarket, Pump Street and The Shambles.

The Victorian carousel and the funfair sit in Cornmarket. Gin Lane, the immersive Victorian alleyway staged by Worcester producer Clik Clik Collective, is found between New Street and The Shambles; in 2025 it ran on the Friday and Saturday evenings only.

Worcester City Council organises the Fayre. It puts the visitor number at “over 125,000 visitors to the city over the four days” on its business information page, while its own November 2025 press release said “over 150,000 visitors”. The council values the Fayre at “more than £7.3 million a year” to the Worcestershire economy through visitors, overnight stays and local spending.

Is there an admission charge?

No ticket is sold and no entry price is published. The Fayre is a street market on the public highway, and neither the council nor the operator lists an admission fee anywhere on the event site. Individual funfair rides are paid for on the day.

The opening ceremony and the Christmas tree lights

The Fayre’s opening night is also when Worcester’s Christmas tree lights go on. In 2025 the ceremony began at 5.30pm in Cornmarket Square with carols and a speech by the Mayor, and the tree lights in Cathedral Square were switched on at 7.15pm. (Worcester City Council, 28 November 2025)

Those are 2025 timings. No 2026 running order has been published. The Fayre site’s own navigation still offers an “Event programme 2025”, and its entertainment page is still written in the past tense about last year’s opening ceremony. Getting there and parking

The city centre car parks fill early. The organiser’s own advice is to “find alternative modes of transport or getting here early to find a space”.

Foregate Street station is 0.3 miles from the Fayre and Shrub Hill is 0.6 miles, both figures from the organiser. Our parking page has every council tariff, including the £4.70 all-day rate at St Martin’s Gate that the council’s own zone table contradicts.

Park and ride is not confirmed for 2026 yet. The Fayre’s park and ride page has not been updated since October 2025 and still carries the 2025 timetable: service 910 from the Boiler House at County Hall to Worcester Bus Station stand P, every 10 minutes on the Saturday and every 15 minutes at peak times on the Sunday. In 2025 the council said it ran 8.45am to 10pm on the Saturday and 9.45am to 6.40pm on the Sunday. It has run on the Saturday and Sunday only, not the Thursday or Friday. Check before you rely on it.

Road closures

Worcester City Council says closures are “kept to a minimum due to the use of new hostile vehicle mitigation security barriers”, so they are only in place during the Fayre’s opening hours and while stallholders set up and break down each day. Full closure details are published on the council’s website “nearer the time”.

As of 5 September 2026 the council’s Road Closures for Approved Events page lists one event only, the Worcester City Runs on 13 September. Nothing has been posted for the Fayre. Coaches

Coach bookings for 2026 are open and capped at 50 coaches per day. The rates, including VAT, are £85 on the Thursday, Friday and Sunday and £125 on the Saturday. Cancellations in writing before Friday 13 November 2026 are refunded less a £20 fee; after that there are no refunds.

Normal city centre coach arrangements are suspended for the four days. Any coach that turns up without a booking is treated as a “fly coach”, and dropping passengers anywhere other than the allocated zone carries “a one-off charge of £250 per vehicle”. Confirmation packs with the passenger zone map go out about ten days before the event. (Information for coaches)

If you run a city centre business

Shops inside the Fayre footprint can extend the sale of their own goods to their frontage without a street trading licence, but sub-letting your frontage to someone else is banned outright. Anything else, a gazebo, extra seating, a temporary bar, needs a detailed proposal emailed to christmas@worcester.gov.uk by Wednesday 5 November.

Deliveries cannot be driven in once the closures are up, so the council asks businesses to reschedule them outside Fayre opening hours.
