Golden Sun Chinese Takeaway on Astwood Road has gone from a food hygiene rating of 2 to a 5. Its new inspection, on 19 October, scored “very good” in all three areas the officer checks. In our September roundup it was one of five Worcester premises rated 2. (Golden Sun Chinese Takeaway, FSA register)

It was the best of a strong month. Of the 24 ratings dated October published so far, 19 were 5s. None was below a 3.

One late result runs the other way. DG Den, a shop on Gresham Road in St John’s, was rated 1 on 10 September. That rating reached the public register after our 1 October roundup.

These figures come from the Food Standards Agency’s register for the Worcester City Council area, read on 2 November 2026.

What it means for you

  • Check the date as well as the number. Every entry on the FSA register shows when the inspection took place. In Worcester, 34 rated premises still carry a rating from 2023 or earlier.
  • A rating is about hygiene and food safety systems, not the food. It is not a review.
  • Businesses can put their side. A business can appeal within 21 days of being told its rating, publish a “right to reply” on the register, or ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements. Golden Sun shows a low rating does not have to last.
  • You can report a concern. Inspections in the city are carried out by Worcestershire Regulatory Services for Worcester City Council.

We did not approach the businesses named for comment before publication. The entries above are reported exactly as the public register records them. Any business named here that has been re-rated, or that wants its right to reply noted, can email hello@worcestertimes.co.uk and we will publish an update.
